Hi Again!  Well, I’m back with more about my Unique Jewelry Designs!

OKAY!  So, in my last blog installment, I gave an outline of what inspires me to create my vision of Jewelry—as adornment!

From Ancient Designs and materials to the baubles of Royalty and of course, Silver Screen Icons, then to colors and the most important in my mind—THE ROCKS—or the Gemstones I use.

I have to say that I generally start with the Gemstone—I go to gem shows and I comb the internet searching for that one rock that will jump at me with a “Love at First Sight” SHOCK!  That always does happen!  I have thought a lot about what that “Love Attack” is because I do believe that everything is ENERGY!  Maybe you’ve heard that or read about it. And that ENERGY is what somehow speaks to us.

After digging around the internet, I discovered that I’m not the only person who thinks that.  The metaphysical properties of Gemstones have inspired ancient healing practices for centuries!  Now, I’m not sure that that is scientifically proven, but, I don’t think that any of us can deny that most things hit us with feelings and impressions—positive or negative.  Then there is also the kinesiology aspect. But, I won’t get into that here.

SO:  Let me list the gemstones that I use and their properties in the order of my preferences: But a disclaimer here—I by no means imply that these stones have any actual properties here listed, but I do believe there is something to it. You can research for yourselves and you’ll find that there are huge variations of different properties for each stone.

1.    Lapis Lazuli: A gorgeous cobalt blue stone. Known as a stone of “Divine Energy”. Some say, the stone of St. Michael The Archangel. Other properties include: Intuition, Clarity, Healing, Protection, Wisdom, awakens a sense of adventure.

2.    Garnet: There are several kinds of Garnet: Brings out creative powers, energy and vitality!

3.    Amethyst: Calming and  Awareness!

4.    Quartz:  Probably one of the most popular rocks known for its protective qualities:  Healing, protection, dispels negativity.

5.    Rhodochrosite: An emotional Cheerleader! Extinguishes feelings of self-doubt! Builds confidence!

6.    Chrysocolla: A healing stone for rebirth! Imparts gusto and motivation!

There’s definitely a lot of food for thought here. And as I said, I consider myself to be a “whole picture” thinker, always trying to be objective which I think is in short supply these days!

That’s part of why it takes me quite a while to complete a design. But, one final aspect that I consider in my quest for design is SHAPE.  There is a whole “psychology” of shape.

I love all kinds of shapes, but I am mostly drawn to all manner of exotic shapes: Single layers, Double or Triple layering. And from my research, like color and stone lore, shapes also have intrinsic meanings.

For instance:

1.    Circles:  Harmony, Generosity, Unity or Eternity—who doesn’t love that?

2.    Triangles:  The shape of Power, Ambition, Energy, Success, Perseverance and Strength

3.    Abstract/Organic Shapes: Freedom and Creativity

4.    Square/Rectangle:  Conformity, Tradition, Stability, Safety Reliability and Balance

5.    Hexagon:  Unity and Balance

6.    Diamond:  Passion, Faithfulness

7.    Curves:  Femininity, Fluidity, Movement, Positivity, Witty, Expressive
